Rompin Malaysia - Fishin the Off Season

Wednesday, 12 August, 2009
The guys told me they wanted to fish Rompin in June, even though I told them the Fishin wasn’t that good in the off season. Well what do I know !
We started off a bit further North, in Pekan, which is several years behind Rompin as a destination for international tours. The locals told us there were no fish around but Steve bagged a nice 5kg Diamond Trevally and we hooked one nice Sail Fish. The local chef cooked up the Trevally, Malay style and it was a treat.
We headed down to Rompin which is hitting the international Fishin radar for Sails a lot these days. It’s a fantastic local Malay style town which caters for the international fisherman. Accommodation in all the resorts is only three start but more than adequate. It’s a great adventure and we hooked up with two local brothers who knew the area. We caught and released another four great Sails. We got close with a few hits from the Sails on poppers and stick baits. The 5/0 Black Nickel 804BLN Mutsu (Circle) Hooks with live baits under a balloon float were the best preformed.
Best Fishin in Rompin is from August to late November when the South China Sea monsoons start to blow and make Rompin unfishable through to May.
