Scott Reef Western Australia – the dog pound

Wednesday, 12 August, 2009
Some fishermen wait a lifetime for a night like this. After a long cruise up from Broome on Reel Teaser, hosted but Ross and Tracey, we set anchor for the night. We’d been told there was a chance of a Doggie or two to be had off the edge of the reef on medium to heavy weight metal jigs.
We were not really sure if it was the tide, the moon cycle or just blind luck but we anchored on top of the Dog Pound. You don’t get Fishin like this many times in your life. Every drop was met with a screaming reel for the next three hours. Several Dog Tooth Tuna over 50kg were landed with monster fish snapping 300 gram plus lures in half. Ross can’t remember a session as frantic.
Fishin for the remainder of the trip was fantastic in this isolated location. The traditional Indonesian fishing boats do light up the sky at night but this is truly one of the most amazing and remote Fishin destinations in the world.
